Charles Janvier notebook, 1917-1918.

They include functions related to the World War, a girls' high school commencement ceremony, an otolaryngologic hospital, the Krewe of Rex, and the Knights of Columbus. Included are copies of poems, quotations, and articles from published sources.

The Knights of Columbus originated in New Haven, Connecticut in 1882. The group's expansion to Iowa was the result of the efforts of Patrick McArdle, Illinois state deputy director. The first Iowa council was established in Dubuque in May, 1900 followed by council in Davenport in September of the same year. Charles Janvier was educated at the College of the Immaculate Conception in New Orleans, La. He managed several insurance companies before being made president of the Canal Bank & Trust Company in 1904 and the Louisiana National Bank in 1913. Janvier was Louisiana state senator for the 6th senatorial district (Orleans Parish) between 1904 and 1905 and was prominent in New Orleans social clubs and Carnival.
